Dinaminde Baptist Church

Dinaminde Baptist Church

Dinaminde Baptist Church was a Latvian Baptist congregation in the neighborhood of Daugavgrīva, at the mouth of the Daugava River near Riga. In 19th–20th-century sources the church often appears under the historical place-name Dinaminde (German: Dünamünde), later standardized as Daugavgrīva.

Although surviving sources do not give a precise founding date, by the late 1870s it already operated a congregational primary school, as Jānis Aleksandrs Freijs worked as a teacher at the Daugavgrīvas Baptist Congregation Elementary School from 1877 to 1879, indicating a structured church community with educational activities [1].

The existence of a functioning school and congregation by the 1870s places Dinaminde among the first generation of Latvian Baptist churches, following Užava and the earliest Riga congregations.
